Of Emails And Birthday Cakes
Our first user submission has been recieved here at My Boss is Michael Scott, and I can’t be more pleased with how Michael Scottish it is. Thank you Pam!
As the Pam Beasley of the office, part of my job is inter-office communication via email (eg, Michael is out sick today, they’re paving the parking lot next Friday, etc.) One day I sent a mass email to everyone in the office. Michael called me over to help him set up something on his computer. He left his email up, and I could see about a half dozen copies of my email in his inbox. Knowing full well at that moment that he has been receiving copies of everyone’s emails, I decided to play it coy. “Do you always get multiple copies of emails like that?” I asked him, pointing to his overstuffed inbox. “Yeah,” Michael replied, “but if I press this button they all go away.” He proceeds to hit the delete button repeatedly to eliminate the extraneous copies. I could literally see the thought bubble over his head – “Haha, silly Pam…doesn’t even know what a delete button is…I’m smarter!”
Over the summer, we had several birthdays within a few weeks of each other. On one of those occasions, we all had cake for the individual on the actual day of their birthday, but Michael could not partake because he was traveling that day. The following week was another birthday, and Michael, realizing that he would be traveling again the day of that individual’s actual birthday, asked if we could please move the festivities to the day prior when he would not be traveling. Not heeding the fact that the birthday person would be out of the office that day…
